Brenda Howard Memorial Award Information
The Queens Chapter of PFLAG (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) announces the creation of the "Brenda Howard Award"
in memory of the late bisexual activist Brenda Howard.
Ms. Howard was a major figure in the modern LGBT rights movement dating back to Stonewall days. She coordinated the rally to
commemorate the 1-month anniversary of the Stonewall uprising, and then created the Rally and March (Christopher Street Liberation Day
March) that was celebrated at the 1-year anniversary. This became the annual New York City Pride March which spawned all the other
pride marches, festivals and celebrations around the world.
The Brenda Howard Award recognizes an individual or organization that best exemplifies the vision, principals and community service
exemplified by the late LGBT rights activist Brenda Howard and who serves as a positive and visible role model for the Bisexual Community.
In giving this award PFLAG Queens is pleased to once again be in the forefront for equal rights by being the first major, American LGBT
organization to have named an award after an out bisexual member of the LGBT Community.
